Aims & Values

Together, our mission statement and motto summarise the essence of our school’s values. We actively promote this and make sure everyone in our school understands, knows and aims to live up to them.

"Working together for excellence in a caring community,

which is supported by our Latin motto,

Servire Honore

Here is a breakdown of what each part means for us:

Working Together

Collaboration is at the heart of everything we do. Our staff, pupils, parents, and other stakeholders all play a key role in creating a supportive and dynamic learning environment. By working together, we harness the collective strengths and talents of our community to be able to support our pupils fully.

Working together with parents is crucial. We recognise that to be successful in school, our children need support from both the home and school. “Parental support has eight times more impact in determining a child's academic success than social class.”(Times Educational Supplement)

So at KJHS  we know a strong partnership with parents will make a great difference in your child’s education. As partners, we share the responsibility for our children’s success and want our parents to know that we will do our very best to carry out our responsibilities.

Our staff are also working closely with colleagues within our learning community at KJHS. We share practice and harness the skills within our school. This is supplemented with external support as required. We also continue to build relationships and partnership across our feeder primaries, Dickson Plan partner schools and our Craigavon Area Learning Community, In addition we have established links with our shared education partner St John the Baptist College.

We are supported by other stakeholders such as Student Support counsellors along with other  amazing external agencies  our local community such as REACH, local churches, ASPIRE, all play an active role.

Excellence

We strive for the highest standards in all areas of school life.  We also know that our pupils are teenagers and will make mistakes. We do have high standards and expectations. Part of this involves consequences and the learning that comes.  We want our pupils to be able to acknowledge their mistakes and learn from them. So, for us at KJHS, excellence is not just a goal but a continuous pursuit that inspires our efforts and aspirations. So whether it's academic achievements, behaviour, decision making, extracurricular activities, or personal development, we are committed to providing outstanding opportunities and support for every pupil to strive for excellence.

Caring Community

Our school is more than just a place of learning; it is a community where we want everyone to feel valued and respected. We foster an environment of kindness, empathy, and mutual respect, ensuring that every member feels a sense of belonging and support. This caring atmosphere allows students to thrive both academically and personally. It is pleasing that in a 2024 survey that most year 10 parents, 75% - 90%, said their child felt safe at KJHS. In addition, the majority, 50% - 74%, reported that their child was happy at KJHS.

Servire Honore

At Killicomaine Junior High School, our restored Latin motto, “Servire Honore,” serves as a guiding principle for our entire school community.  It was created by past Vice Principal Mr K Twyble.

Translated as “to serve with honour,” this powerful phrase inspires our pupils to wear our crest proudly and contribute to both our school and the wider community.

Servire

This Latin word means "to serve." Service is a fundamental aspect of our school ethos. We encourage pupils to look beyond themselves and contribute positively to the school and the wider community. Through acts of service, students learn the importance of generosity, compassion, and social responsibility.

Honore

Translated as "with honour," this term emphasises the importance of integrity, respect, and dignity in all our actions.

In summary we believe that education extends beyond our classrooms, and our commitment to excellence is matched by our dedication to service. Through “Servire Honore,” we encourage our pupils to demonstrate honour , integrity, and compassion in all their endeavours.

Our Latin motto aligns perfectly to our mission statement.

Whether it’s academic achievement, sportsmanship, or community outreach, we encourage all of our pupils to strive to make a positive impact and do so with pride for our school and community working together for excellence in our caring school community,
