In Killicomaine Junior High School we operate a ‘Merit System’ each term. This is a way of keeping a record of all the good work our pupils do, and also of any unacceptable behaviour.

At the end of a set period (usually a few weeks), all the achievement merit marks (+) and behaviour demerit (-) marks are totalled for each pupil.

There are prizes and certificates for the winning class in each Year group and also for the best pupil in each class. Most of our pupils then see an afternoon film show in the Assembly Hall.

The small number of pupils who have too many demerit marks spend that afternoon doing extra work. They also meet with their Year Heads where time is allocated to reflect and plan targets for improvement in the next Merit System.
