On
Wednesday 19th October 2005, 10A1 and 10A2 went to Queen's
Film Theatre to see a special showing of the brilliant French
film "Les Choristes", (The Chorus).
Set
in 1949, it is the story of Clement Mattieu who is hired
to teach at a school that rehabilitates young boys. Fond
de L'Etang is a nasty place, a boarding school for "difficult"
children. It is run by an incredibly strict headmaster who
punishes the boys for breaking even the smallest rule. Monsieur
Mattieu teaches the boys to sing and to work together as
a team in a choir, and little by little the boys gain a
sense of purpose in a senseless school. Their dignity is
restored and a new world of possibilities is opened up to
them.
In the
end, the film reminds the audience of one simple but worthwhile
lesson, that every teacher knows - one person CAN make a
difference!
We would
recommend this film to all our pupils and parents. Les Choristes
received several nominations for best foreign language film
and can be found in all good DVD rental shops.
